Salpaus will hold the Skills semi-finals this year in cooking, bookkeeping as well as plate and welding. The most successful competitors in the semi-finals will advance to the finals of Skills Finland, which will be held in JyvÀskylÀ in May.
Students who are interested in studying at Salpaus are welcome to follow the semi-finals:
- 29.1. Cooking at Lahti Central Campus (Svinhufvudinkatu 6 E), competition time 9-16
- 29.1. Plate and welding at the Vipusenkatu campus (Vipusenkatu 5 A2), competition time 9.45â16
- 30.1. Bookkeeping at Lahti Central Campus (StÄhlberginkatu 4 A), competition hours 10-12 and 13-16
The event is a great opportunity to see students working in their own field. Competitors in the Skills competition will have their professional skills and competences tested through real life tasks and situations. The semi-finals are held in authentic learning environments at different locations in Salpaus.
The Skills competitions involves a close partnership with the world of work and business. The judges of cooking competiotion are representatives of working life from PĂ€ijĂ€t-HĂ€me Chefs’ Association, PĂ€ijĂ€t-HĂ€me Catering Services, Pelicans Restaurants Oy and Salpaus Training Center. The judges for the plate and welding industry come from Kemppi Oy and Liukkosen Pultti Oy. The bookkeeping competition assignments are done online and all competitor assignments are evaluated in part in Oulu.
Salpaus students will compete all around Finland
The Skills2020 semi-finals will be held in the last week of January in over 30 locations. Â In total almost 1500 competitors will participate.
There will be more than 40 Salpaus students competing in 20 study areas across Finland. The fields include security, baker-confectioner, CAD design, and clothing manufacturing.
Aino Juutilainen, who is competing in clothing manufacturing, will also participates in the EuroSkills competition, which will be held in September in Graz, Austria.
